As of August 3, 2023, there are a total of 12 remaining Sears stores operating in the United States. California has the highest concentration of Sears locations in the country, with three stores, constituting approximately 25% of all the Sears stores still in operation nationwide.

As of November 7, 2022, Sears Holdings Corporation, a prominent retail entity, is currently under the ownership of ESL Investments and Transform SR Brands LLC. This newly structured company is commonly referred to as “New Sears.” The change in ownership stemmed from a significant legal battle involving Eddie Lampert, the founder of Transformco, which led to a transformation in Sears’ ownership structure.

Sears Holdings, a prominent retail company, was founded on March 24, 2005. Unfortunately, it faced significant financial challenges and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2019. As a result of this bankruptcy, its assets were sold to ESL Investments, and they were transferred to a new subsidiary. This marked the end of Sears Holdings as it had been known. The company’s successor, known as Transformco, emerged from this restructuring process. It’s important to note that this event took place in June 2019, signaling the end of an era for Sears.
